Call for Abstracts

It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in our Meeting's Sessions. This is your chance to expose your work and interact with surgeons around the world.

Abstracts Submission Method and Deadline
   - Abstracts must be submitted only online via the ESS website at: www.ess-eg.org or by email as an MS Word document attachment to: cobshahi@link.net.

    - Abstracts sent by fax or in a printed version by ordinary mail will not be accepted. If you do not have access to the Internet, please contact the office in charge (COB) for special consideration.

     - Abstracts may be submitted until January 20, 2007.

General Guidelines & Rules
    - We welcome papers on any surgical specialty, either clinical or experimental.

     - Author-presenter will receive notification of acceptance or rejection by e-mail. If the abstract is accepted, author will have a maximum of 15 days to register for the congress.

    - The author-presenter will be informed by e-mail of date, time and place of his presentation.

    - Abstracts must be written exclusively in English.

    - If your abstract is accepted and you choose to withdraw from the program, you must submit your cancellation, in writing, to the office in charge (COB).

Methods of Presentation
   - Author may choose between two modes of presentations:

   A) Oral Presentation (7 minutes followed by a 3 minutes discussion)
   B) Video Presentation (10-12 minutes followed by a 3 minutes discussion)

   - Videos for video presentations must be recorded on a CD in any of the following video formats: MPEG 1, AVI, Real Video. A VHS cassette, recorded in NTSC or PAL-N norms, can also be used.

    - It is not possible to receive video files through the Congress' web site or by email. The author will have the original CD or cassette to be used during the oral presentation.

Abstracts
   - If submitted by email, the author must provide the following information:

  - Author-presenter personal information, including: full name, title, institution, complete mailing address, phone numbers, fax and email address.
  


 

   - Category (abstract's surgical specialty)
   - Type of Presentation (Oral/ Video)
   - Length: Abstracts must be limited to 300 words and must be concise and clear, highlighting the most relevant aspects, findings and conclusions.

   - Abbreviations: Use only standard abbreviations. Special or unusual abbreviations are not recommended. If otherwise necessary, the latter should be placed in parenthesis after the first appearance of the full word, except for unit symbols. Numeral rather than words may be used to indicate numbers.

    - Changes after submission: No changes in the text are permitted after submission. Updates should be made at the time of presentation.

   - Structure: Type the abstract in the following order:
    - Title of Abstract: in capital bold letters.
    - Name of author(s):with initials preceding the last name, omitting titles and underlining the presenting author.
    - Name of institutions:where the scientific work was undertaken, city and country.
   - The body of the abstract that should be structured under the following headings:
      Introduction: Background/ Purpose
      Material and Methods Results
      Discussion and Conclusions

In order to be included in the abstracts book or CD the text must adjust to these rules.

   - The Scientific Committee has the right to correct those typing or idiomatic mistakes in the abstract's text.

    - The complete text of the abstract will be required only if the author decide to apply for the "Shawki Kamal Young Investigator's Award".

Guidelines for "Shawki Kamal Young Investigator's Award"
Candidates for the prize must:
- Be the first author of the paper
- Be under 40 years of age
- Be a member of the ESS or should apply for membership
- Clearly mention applying for the award when submitting the abstract.
- Submit the complete text of the abstract either online via the ESS website: www.ess-eg.org or by email to: cobshahi@link.net.

The applicant, whose abstract has been accepted for presentation at the Prize competition, must prepare the full manuscript ready for publication according to the rules of the official journal of the ESS.

 

The applicants, selected for participation in the competition, will have to present personally their paper during the special Competition Session.
The Award Committee will make its selection and recommendation following the presentation of all papers and the authors whose abstracts, manuscript and presentation is judged most outstanding will receive an award of 2,000 Egyptian Pounds, Society Shield, Society Pin and a Best Research Certificate.
The winner of the Prize will be announced during the Gala Dinner.

Speakers Guidelines
Preloading Presentations:
Speakers, Moderators and other Presenters, should kindly stop by the Speaker A-V Room and check-in upon arrival at the Meeting.
Your presentation is required to be loaded onto the meeting computers the day prior to your scheduled talk. Submitting your presentation ahead of time ensures your presentation will not have unexpected display problems.

How it Works:
There will be a single laptop computer at the podium. This laptop is connected via a network to a laptop located in the speaker ready room. Once your pres-entation has been checked in by the operator, it will be loaded onto the main podium computer where you can easily launch it.

Format Guidelines:
PowerPoint Presentations on CD-ROM or USB Mini Hard Drive (Flash memory sticks).
Personal Laptops will not be used, to eliminate mishaps that can occur due to incompatible devices and software and also to ensure the flow of the meeting is not interrupted.
